The role of BoerenBruxselPaysans is to facilitate and increase local food production and processing (within the Brussels-Capital Region and its food-related territory), which incorporates ecological production methods, and which is intended for consumers in Brussels. It aims to encourage the latter's access to high-quality food via short circuits, raise awareness on sustainable food in all its aspects, and stimulate participation in local food movements.

The objective is to create a pilot project which can be replicated elsewhere, and which involves the entire sustainable food sector, from production to consumption. This pilot project will be set up on the outskirts of the suburban territory, primarily in Anderlecht (Neerpede and Vogelzang). The objective will be achieved through methodological and technical support for the project managers, training, provision of infrastructure and sites, the development of short processing and sales circuits, awareness-raising and networking initiatives, etc.

BoerenBruxselPaysans will voluntarily limit its scope to open-soil cultivation (and not soil-less cultivation).
The ERDF-BCR funds cover investment and operational expenditure (renovation of farms, purchase of equipment and material) distributed between the various actors in the project.

These partners are: Brussels Environment, Le Début des Haricots non-profit organisation, Terre-en-vue non-profit organisation, Maison verte & bleue non-profit organisation, Credal non-profit organisation and the Municipality of Anderlecht.
